It happens every year, yet we're still not used to it. After the excitement that lit up our spirits to celebrate the new year, the arrival of Blue Monday - as always, punctual on the third Monday of January - reminds us that there can be no joy without sadness. And that the next holidays are quite far away. So, in fact, we have a valid reason to be sad.

Obviously, it goes without saying that this date is purely symbolic, and there is no scientific law that can determine the sadness of a specific day. However, there are various meteorological and climatic factors that influence it and - let's be honest - they really do their best. Among these, certainly the cold and reduced hours of daylight, but also coming to terms with the first failures of the much-feared New Year's resolutions.
At the root of it all is Cliff Arnall, an English psychologist who, during his tenure at Cardiff University, formulated the equation: {[W+(D-d)] xTQ} / (MxNa). A formula as complex as it is implausible, as it is merely the result of a communication campaign to which Arnall decided to lend his name, playing along.

But assuming this indecipherable and somewhat frightening formula is actually true, here we are ready to solve it with a playlist. To face what has been decreed as the saddest day of the year, here is a playlist of fifteen songs - short but effective - that bring out the best that music has to offer, from great classics to hidden gems.
- Cuccurucucù - Franco Battiato
- La Vida Es Un Carnaval - Celia Cruz
- Hey Ya! - Outkast
- Tienatè - Nu Genea
- Stormi - Iosonouncane
- Disperato Erotico Stomp - Lucio Dalla
