Veganuary. A Growing Trend Year After Year: What It Is and Why You Should Do It

January again, we start off on a green foot with Veganuary.

January is that time of year when festive feasts give way to the desire to get back on track. This means nutritional plans, gym memberships, and an ever-evolving to-do list. Among the New Year's resolutions - indispensable for the past ten years - is also Veganuary, along with the desire to delve into vegan cuisine, reducing the consumption of meat, fish, and animal products.

Born in 2014 in the United Kingdom, Veganuary is an initiative that guides people for 30 days to discover plant-based cuisine, providing many recipes, tips, and nutritional insights. The goal has been clear from the beginning: to show that veganism, besides being a valid ethical and environmental solution, can also be easy, tasty, and more accessible than one might think. By signing up at www.veganuary.com starting January 1st, participants gain access to the actual challenge, receiving plenty of free inspiration and creative ideas on how to maintain a varied vegan diet for a month without making sacrifices.

Numerous entities actively participating in the project further demonstrate its impact. Among these, the italian brand Pizzium, which this year launched the "pizziumella," a plant-based mozzarella made from almonds, cashews, and fibers, created in collaboration with Flower Burger. Additionally, for the occasion, they have created the Special Veganuary Pizza, available throughout January, topped with tomato, pizziumella, chestnut crumbs, and shimeji mushrooms.

Participating in this challenge means not only redeeming oneself from the long Christmas celebrations but also changing one's perspective on cuisine, sometimes even stepping out of one's comfort zone. Whether for environmental, ethical, or health reasons, the number of Veganuary participants grows each year. In 2023 alone, over 700,000 people took part, rediscovering the pleasure of eating celery root as a steak or lentil-based ragù.

Will we all make it to the end of this challenge? We don't know, but what is certain is that we've already started the journey!
